 Updating Curtis

Up to this point I had not spoken with or met Mr. Clancy. When I pulled up to his house he was working in his yard.  I walked up to him and introduced myself as the Internet teacher from Southern Regional. His reply floored me. He said he was pleased to meet me, but he didn’t know what Internet was. I realized he had come to the school asking for help with no knowledge of Internet or any of  our activities. It’s both humbling and gratifying. I was guilty of assuming because he came to use after hearing about Internet use in school when the real importance of his request was in the fact he came to school when he was in need of help.

During the next hour I filled him in on what had transpired in the six months since he had brought in the picture, and he showed me some more wonderful photos he had taken when he was stationed in Etajima and Tinian. He allowed me to borrow some of them. They give glimpses of Curtis’ world in 1945. The ones I have here on these pages don’t do justice to the photo collection. These photos will form the basis of an activity in which we will ask for your input in the section titled Clancy’s Camera.
