On May 8, 1997 I checked my e-mail and found a message from Mika with wonderful news. She received a fax from a Mr. Kobayasi on Etajima indicating he recognized himself along with his older bother and sister in the photo. We had located three of the seven children. He indicated his sister was no longer in Etajima, but would be visiting him on May 11 and remembered the photo well. He felt confident they would be able to identify more of the children. The breakthrough had come as a result of the web page created in Japan. A Japanese student at the University of Chicago was visiting the Japanese web. His site. He contacted his father, who worked for a Chamber of Commerce near Etajima. This started the series of events which led to the contact with Mr. Kobayasi. |
