 Establishing Connections

Mika traveled to Etajima the following week to meet with people in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and one of the people in the picture.  Thanks to Mika’s efforts all ten children were identified. All but one was still living. Here efforts are continuing as she has contacted NTT and other agencies  interested in the project. She indicated a Japanese newspaper wanted to interview Mr. Clancy.

With the messages coming more frequently and the need to discuss things in more detail, Tsuneko began corresponding with Mika in Japanese via phone and FAX and has been communicating with NTT concerning a teleconference they will conduct to link us to Etajima on August 2..

We invited Mr. Clancy to speak with the students on June 6 and to see what Internet is all about. During our conversation about time and place he mentioned he was going to be 82 on June 5. Of course that gave me the opportunity to provide a birthday cake for his visit the next day.

Satoshi Shiozaki, a reporter from The Yomiumi America newspaper came the following Wednesday to speak with Curtis, Tsuneko and I. The SandPaper, a summer weekly with the largest summer readership in the area printed a three page feature story in the 4th of July issue.

More information will be to the site after the teleconference on Aug. 2 at NTT offices in New York.
