 Curtis' First Visit

Locally, Southern Regional has received a good deal of publicity and recognition surrounding our activities on Internet. As a result, from
time to time we have worked with members of the public to solve problems and answer questions, but none have proven as challenging or rewarding as the one which came to us a few weeks before Christmas 1996.

Eighty-one year old Curtis Clancy came to Southern Regional High School with an unusual request. He had shown Beth  Klemens, our foreign language coordinator, a beautiful picture he had of ten children and was wondering if we could help him locate the children. He wanted each one to have a copy of the photo. The request was unusual and fascinating for more than one reason. The photo was over 50 years old and was taken a few months after the bombing of Hiroshima on Etajima, a small Island 18 miles off the coast of Hiroshima.

Later that same day, Beth came to me and asked if I thought we could use Internet to help find them. With so little to go on I felt it would be a real challenge, but I love fighting the odds.  And so the quest began...
